Master Bedroom Updates & Plans

Hello Everyone!

I've been living in the new townhouse for a little over 2 months now, and I haven't made too much progress on decorating it and making it feel like an actual home, but there are a few things I've done AND I have a lot of big plans for the place! I thought I would share some updates and plans for each room each week, starting with the master bedroom! I live with 2 other roommates, so their rooms I'll wait to share until they're done decorating, but in the meantime I can share what we've done to the common living spaces and my room, as well as what we plan to do! So here we go!

New Wall Art in the Bedroom

I really wanted to add something above the bed in the master bedroom. It just needed a little something.

Living Room Update: New Paint Color!

We struggled with whether or not to paint our living room now or wait. To be honest it was unbearable. The sofa blended in with the color of the walls and since the walls are easier to change than the color of our sofa, we decided to paint. We went with Sherwin Williams Light French Gray.

The New Townhouse

I have been looking for a place to move to for a while. I really needed something closer to work and was just ready for a change. I found this wonderful gated townhouse community and was sold on it! We moved in on Friday and are slowly getting everything together, but I wanted to give a tour of the before.

Office Makeover Part 1: Painting the Office

Hello Everyone!

I recently got transferred to a new store, and let's just say that there was some definite work that needed to be done in order to get that baby functioning properly. They were without management for almost 6 months and during that time there lacked any form of organization. It was chaos. Since I'm so OCD and crazy about having everything organized, I was having a panic attack every time I walked into the back office. I couldn't find anything, and I found myself focusing on what needed to be organized rather than all the other work I needed to get done. Finally I realized the best way for me to be more productive was to just tackle the chaos and get everything organized. Seeing as how this was the back office of a retail store, I am very limited in what I can do. I was able to do a few things so far that made a world of a difference. I had seen other locations who has also revamped their store's office space and was definitely inspired. Here are some of the other office spaces.

DIY Industrial Pipe Shelving

Okay, so this project wasn’t as easy as the last industrial pipe project I did - industrial pipe towel rod- but it was well worth it! I had been wanting some shelving in my room and never wanted to buy anything because I couldn’t find anything that I loved, so I decided to build something instead. Going with the modern farm house theme, I felt like stand alone industrial pipe shelving would be perfect! Here’s how I did it...

Dining Furniture Makeover Part 1: The Chairs

I’m in the process of clearing out the old and bringing in the new. I gave a bunch of furniture and other things that had been lying around the house to my mom and brought in a new dining table that would better fit the space. The style of the old table was perfect for the style of the house, but the shape and size just didn’t work at all!  The new table and chairs isn’t exactly what I would pick, but it fits the space much better and will work as a temporary fix, but it definitely needed some paint.

DIY Industrial Pipe Towel Rod

This project was one of the easiest and best looking projects I've done in a while. It only took 3 easy steps and less than half a day to complete but it looks awesome!

Industrial Pipe DIY Projects

I finally decided to work on an industrial pipe DIY project! I’m so excited about it! In the mean time, I wanted to share some awesome and easy DIY projects, you can do at home, using pipes!

Night Stands: IKEA RAST HACK

I recently purchased two IKEA RAST dressers and decided I wanted to turn them into night stands. After looking at a bunch of hacks on Pinterest I finally combined a few of my favorites to create my own hack. You can see the inspiration I used here and the final product here.

So, for starters I kind of did this 2 different ways. The first dresser I was so impatient that when I got it I put it together right away. Then I thought to myself “why would you do that?” It’s so much easier to stain them before they’re put together. So, for the second dresser I stained all the pieces individually before putting it together.

I started by using Minwax Jacobean, but then, after putting the dresser together, decided it was too brown and wanted the color to be a little more gray.

So I went back and stained the dresser with a coat of Minwax Classic Gray.

To be honest, I got kind of lazy toward the end there and didn't fully stain the insides of the dresser. you cant see the inside anyway, so I made sure to stain the outer edge where you could see but didn't worry too much about the rest.

Once I was done staining, I waited overnight for the stain to fully settle and then used MINWAX Polyacrylic Protective Finish in Satin and a Woodster foam brush to seal the dresser.

There were a few things that I still needed to fix before the night stands were complete. The dressers looked so "Blah" just as they were, so I wanted to make them look a little more refined. First, the top of the dressers had a dip in them.

I fixed this by cutting a new top 25in wide and in deep.

For the drawers I added a trim around them to make them look more finished. I bought 4 1in x10ft 1/2 in thick pine board and used a miter saw to cut the angles for the corners.

I used the same wood for the sides of the dresser too.

After the whole thing was pretty much done, something still wasn't sitting right with me- the color. It needed a little contrast. I decided to paint the outside Sherwin Williams White Cotton. The dresser was too plain stained all the same color. For me, the white base really livened it up!
